I built this company because I want to use circularity to help all of us change our relationship with stuff. I believe that brands can lead this change.
BALEEN is here to help brands to do more with less by creating innovative ways to become stewards of the natural resources that they rely on to exist; and importantly, to use their powerful voices to influence human behavior and shape the way we treat our planet.
Nellie holds over 15 years’ sustainability experience and is widely recognized as a leading figure within the circular economy movement. She spent nearly a decade at Patagonia as the architect of the brand’s precedent-setting and award-winning circularity program, Worn Wear.
Nellie has developed and and implemented circular business models for brands and organizations ranging in size from $50M to $100B+ across industries from apparel and footwear to home appliances, life sciences, baby gear, furniture, and retail.
A former lecturer in Industrial Ecology at UC Santa Barbara, she holds a BA in Environmental Systems from UC San Diego and a MS in Biological Oceanography from Scripps Institution of Oceanography.
